Interior Design Project Update: What we’re up to at The Sussex Home Stylist
So the sun has been shining, the birds having ben singing and our feet haven’t really been touching the ground. Which we love! We are working on some amazing design projects at the moment so I thought it would be a great time to tell you what’s going on. We put most of our updates on Facebook and Instagram but here’s a summary of what we’ve been doing.
Over in Steyning our snug project is pretty much done. We have some pictures and blinds to get up but apart from that the space is already being enjoyed by all the family. What was a really uncomfortable space - boiling in Summer and freezing in winter is now a lovely new space that the whole family use all the time. It was originally planned for the kids but funnily enough the adults have already kicked them out! Better luck next time kiddos!
We’ve been working for a while now on a project in Upper Beeding. Our client has bought two houses next to each other and has knocked them through to make one, larger space for their growing, busy family. We worked with Owl Construction to knock through top and bottom. Upstairs required a bit of jiggery pokery, as we created a new corridor to go between the two. The Owls did an amazing job at keeping the old beams exposed in the new corridoor so what could have been a very new, shiny space, has been grounded by these lovely original beams making it look like it’s been there all along. We’ve had loads of fun making their three kids their new bedrooms, creating for each of them a new and personalised space which we designed from scratch. I have loved every minute and they’re super happy with their new rooms, which makes us very happy.
Downstairs the knock through has taken the shape of a door way. The Owls have organised a custom made door that’s perfectly in keeping with the originals so again, it looks like it’s always been there. To make the space function well we’ve moved a door way and changed the access to the outside which will be completed in the coming weeks.
The Owls are this week hard at work on the garden project to get that ready for the Summer holidays while we beaver away in the Studio creating the designs for the next stage. We’ve got some fab ideas on how we’re going to inject their personalities into their new space.
We’ve been working now for a long time with a family in Steyning who bought a small bungalow and have converted it into a gorgeous five bedroom home. When I say converted, I think it was about three walls that stayed, everything else is brand spanking new. It’s on a fantastic road with a huge outdoor space and the project has been about as big as it gets. I can’t take full credit for this one, my client has a really good eye and done most of the work, but I’ve been working along side her from the planning stage to make suggestions, give ideas, help with suppliers and colour palettes and general interior design ideas. They’ve moved into the space before it was finished so they’re now busily trying to get it finished with a two year old lunatic on their heels, which is no easy task. But I was there this week and there’s been a whole load of plastering done, a gorgeous mantel has gone into the kitchen and the decorators were busy . It really is looking fantastic. The end is in sight.
I’ve recently started the planning phase on a 3 bedroom semi- detached home, also in Steyning. My lovely clients have recently retired and are spending a whole lot more time in their home, so we’re freshening it up from top to toe. Some rooms require more than others, we’re getting creative with some joinery and modernising some of their rooms. Tweaks in every room that will give the whole house a new lease of life.
I’ve also met a new client in Angmering who has bought a new home and is ready to put his stamp on it. That’s all I can say about that one right now but watch this space and hopefully very soon I’ll have some exciting updates.
Over in Warninglid we’re putting the final designs together for the most beautiful cottage built in 1637. It’s got more character than anything I’ve ever seen before, it almost oozes out of the walls. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to show you what we’re doing with the place.
Rounding up the projects and in stark contrast to the cottage project, is a fab penthouse apartment we’re working on in East Croydon. We’re working on the apartment stage by stage and this interior design project is about making it personal. We’re in the design stages at the moment so there won’t be a whole lot to see for a while but it’s all about getting this stage right so the next phase can go without a hitch.
Finally our very own home project is flying along. Over the last few weeks Rob’s completed the upstairs Ensuite project and the downstairs loo- both of which were absolutely disgusting before. They’ve been transformed into rooms we’re no longer embarrassed of, spaces that have opened up and become brighter and lighter and just lovely to spend time in. I’m so pleased with how the bathroom design turned out, it feels so luxurious in there!
Rob can now be found mostly in the garden. He’s widening the driveway and neatening up the deck area and garden at the back. We’re loving using the outdoor space but can’t wait for the garden to be properly sorted so we’ve got something beautiful to sit and look at. Follow along on Facebook or Instagram for daily updates on what’s going on.
So that’s it for us on our interior design projects. That’s what we’re up to so if you see us flying around Sussex you know why. I consider myself super lucky to get to do what I love as a job. Getting to solve problems for my clients, be creative and leave behind happy faces is the best feeling. Super lucky.
I’m also very fortunate to have the lovely Bryony working with me at the moment from Sussex University. She’s doing an internship with us over the Summer. As a small Sussex Business, an extra pair of very helpful hands is worth it’s weight in gold.
On that happy note I’ll leave you until next time. Keep up to date by following us on Facebook and Instagram and don’t forget to share with us your home projects we’d love to see them. Send them or give us a tag. And if you have any project, big or small that you’d like our help with just drop us a line. We’re always happy to have a chat about how we might be able to help you.
